Treatments 

Recovery from addiction is a deep personal journey, and there are various treatment options to suit individual needs. While Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and its 12 Steps are widely known, many other pathways support sobriety.

The 12 Steps of Sobriety

The first step of the 12 steps program is "Acceptance".  Admitting you have an addiction and that your life has become unmanageble.

The second step of the 12 steps program is "Detox".  Detoxification (medically or self-managed) is usually one of the first steps toward recovery. This can be physically and mentally taxing.

The third step of the 12 steps program is "Surrender Power".  This step is when someone first agrees to one-on-one therapy.

The fourth step of the 12 steps program is "Conduct a Moral Inventory". This step is when someone start to attend the one-on-one therapy sessions agreed into in step 3.

The fifth step of the 12 steps program is "Group Therapy".  Share the nature of your wrongdoings with peers going through some of the same addictions.

The sixth step of the 12 steps program is "a Higher Power".  Be entirely prepared to have your higher power remove these flaws and shortcomings

The seventh step of the 12 steps program is "Humbly Ask for Help".  Ask your higher power to remove these defects of character.

The eighth step of the 12 steps program is "Make a List of Those Harmed". Identify individuals you have harmed and become willing to make amends to them.

The ninth step of the 12 steps program is "Make Direct Amends". Reach out to those you have harmed and make amends where possible, except when doing so would harm them or others.

The tenth step of the 12 steps program is "Continue Personal Inventory". Keep assessing your behavior, promptly admitting when you are wrong.

The eleventh step of the 12 steps program is "Seek Connection".  Use prayer and meditation to seek knowledge of your higher power's will and the strength to carry it out.

The final step of the 12 steps program is "Help Others".  Having experienced recovery, carry this message to others suffering from addiction and practice these principles in all aspects of your life.
